Driving in my car, listening to the radio, I chanced upon a radio show “Here’s the Thing” with Alec Baldwin interviewing Jerry Seinfeld. I have not been a Jerry Seinfeld fan, but oh my I am now!
Alec has a gift for drawing out the depth from people. His conversation with Jerry revealed the integrity of expression that Jerry lives. Alec asked Jerry why he did not produce a whole series of shows under this guidance after he retired from his very popular TV show. Jerry said no he could not have done that because it would not have been authentic for him to have spun off a bunch of imitations. It would not have been true to his work.
I was impressed that Jerry Seinfeld had such a strong commitment to authenticity! He is content to play 75 nights a year of stand-up comedy where he creates a genuine connection with audiences. He reminded me to keep focusing on what I do best and what I really love to do. It has to be real!
